Job Description:
Friends of Stewart Park is a nonprofit organization celebrating and revitalizing Ithaca’s most popular lakeside park and the Cayuga Waterfront Trail. Friends of Stewart Park employs students in a variety of positions, and many Cornell students have gained valuable and rewarding work experience unique to their skills and interests while helping support one of the community’s favorite destinations. Stewart Park is conveniently located less than 2 miles from Cornell University on TCAT routes 13 and 36. Federal Work Study is REQUIRED for this position.

The Trail and Park Horticulturist mostly self-directed position on-site, outdoors in Stewart Park and along the Cayuga Waterfront Trail.

Project Responsibilities: The Trail and Park Horticulturist will weed and prune in designated landscaping areas, prune invasive shrubs, trim lower hanging branches, and generally make Stewart Park and the Cayuga Waterfront trail look beautiful. The employee may also be asked to participate at in-park work events such as cleanups, parties or festivals. The successful candidate will also passively collect park and trail user data through observation.
Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
Qualifications:
• Self-motivated and directed
• Gardening experience
• Knowledge of or ability to learn plant varietals
• Ability to lift/carry under 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, kneel, sit, squat, and bend down for extended periods
