Community Foundation of Tompkins County is a public charity with 501c3 status with the IRS. Our mission: We bring people and resources together to build a more equitable Tompkins County by inspiring diverse philanthropy, catalyzing collaborations and championing inclusion and justice. The Community Engagement Associate supports the Chief Inclusion & Community Engagement Officer and the Community Engagement Board Committee. This position has supporting responsibility to develop and deliver the Community Foundation’s growing community engagement activities including grant making activities in accordance with best practices in the field and the foundation’s strategic plan. This position will engage in the spring grant cycle process as a Lead Facilitator of a small grant review team, will participate and assist with community engagement committee meetings as administrative support, may engage in social media communications, along with possible other duties as assigned. This position will also engage in the collection and analysis of data from applications, grant reports and other data sources. In office hours are required for at least 3 hours per week (flexible to accommodate breaks, midterms, and finals). Occasional in-person community activities are likely. A minimum of two semesters is preferred, but not required.
Required responsibilities/tasks of this position
• Gain basic knowledge of Foundation’s funds, services, processes, and social justice work
• Assist in philanthropy education and community engagement events
• Carry out various elements of grant making including general processing procedures, grant notification, grant application review, research of applicants, and grant report review
• Administrative: create grant agreements, schedule onsite visits, schedule calls, filing, other as needed
• Position could involve videotaping and editing in the production of short videos that support communication about the impact of grants, donors, and other stakeholders
• Support volunteer grant review team members with technical support, review materials, training, and other needed support
• Document procedures related to grantmaking, grant cycles, and other engagement related activities

Some experience and/or coursework in the following areas preferred
• Exposure to nonprofit or foundation operations and grantmaking approaches
• Survey question development
• Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice-related studies or work
• Film/Video production and editing (not required)
• Event planning and communication
• This position will involve some interaction with volunteers and only occasionally may direct their work on special projects
Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
Specialized Skills
• Ability to use a variety of software tools and databases as well as creation of charts, graphs, visual images, etc.
• Excellent written, oral and communication skills, especially via online tools such as Zoom and Skype
• Excellent data analysis skills
• Ability to effectively organize and prioritize multiple, simultaneous work assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
• Ability to work effectively with a diversity of people and styles
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
