Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the guidance of the Senior Program Director, the Youth Sports Leader at the YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County is responsible for proving support in the organization, delivery, and quality of YMCA program(s) to the membership, program participants and the community. The Youth Sports Leader provides children guidance and supervision in learning, practicing, and performing sports related programs and games. The Youth Sports Leader create a safe atmosphere in which youth interact with one another in a positive, fun and, active environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Organizes participation for various youth sports programs and leagues.
2. Ensures that programs are executed to meet the needs of all children’s ages, abilities, and skill levels.
3. Develops a lesson plan for each session emphasizing skills and drills appropriate for the age group.
4. Greets participants and guardians as they enter/leave area.
5. Teaches skills and teamwork through a safe, appropriate, and interactive way.
6. Sets a positive example for players and their families.
7. Sets up, takes down, and appropriately stores equipment.
8. Assists in monitoring equipment for maintenance needs and repairs.
9. Takes attendance and assists with paperwork as needed.
10. Practices and uphold YMCA core values and policies.
11. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
12. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Knowledge, experience, and proficient in sport(s) which you will be leading.
3. The ability to lead and teach multiple sports disciplines is strongly preferred.
4. Experience working with and supervising children.
5. Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating programs.
6. The ability to work independently under general direction.
7. Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
8. Strong time management skills are a must.
9. CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration certifications are required (YMCA will provide within the first 90 days if not currently certified).
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• The employee needs sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to safely supervise program activities in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations.

• The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Work Schedule:
Shifts: Part Time (5-10 hours per week including nights and weekends). Opportunity for more hours over the summer term.
Closed most major national holidays including Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
