Job Description:
The Paleontological Research Institution is a world class institution of science, culture, & education. Through its Museum of the Earth and Cayuga Nature Center, PRI offers many work study & internship opportunities in a variety of departments. Working at PRI is a great way for students to get real world work experience in a unique environment, while contributing a great deal to the mission of our organization.
Description: PRI seeks a student(s) who has an interest in informal education in a museum setting and would like to work with a group of educators teaching STEM through geology and paleontology to first graders. You will have hands-on experience during these field trips.
Responsibilities: This candidate would be a member of a group of Museum docents who educate first grade classes from Tompkins County visiting the Museum of the Earth for the KDT! program this spring.
- Learn about informal teaching techniques required to share information about STEM to 6–7-year-old students.
- Lead and/or assist with small groups of students through simple geology/paleontology programs/activities.
- Assist the Museum Education Manager with the logistics of the field trips, such as set up or tear down, and build props needed for program.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
The job qualifications:
- Must be available in the Mornings – 9:00am- 1:30pm; Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays.
- We are also looking for applicants who are comfortable working with young children in an informal educational setting. Experience with young children is a plus.
- Candidate must be comfortable in high energy situations and can work well with others.
- Good verbal communication and ability to work on your own are helpful.
- Geology and paleontology knowledge not needed, but a plus. Training is provided.
- Own transportation is a plus though TCAT does come to the Museum.
