The Einhorn Centers PreK-12 Outreach Programs are seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to provide math and literacy tutoring to local elementary and middle school students. America Reads Challenge (ARC) and America Counts Challenge (ACC) tutors will work in coordination with the student-run organization REACH (Raising Education Attainment Challenge). ARC and ACC tutors are expected to participate in all applicable orientations, trainings, and meetings. Tutors will be placed in schools across the Ithaca area will assist in the following capacities:

Math Tutor: Duties will include working with small groups or individual students on activities to reinforce math concepts. Under the guidance of the classroom teacher or afterschool coordinator, tutors will work with students on their math proficiency by helping students work through equations and word problems. Tutors will also work with students to enhance their fluency on math facts, improve their understanding of geometry, telling time, money and place value, as well as other math-related activities.

Literacy Tutor: Duties will include working with small groups and individual students on activities to reinforce reading and writing skills. Under the guidance of the classroom teacher or afterschool coordinator, tutors will work with students on their reading proficiency by listening to them read aloud. Tutors will also work with students to enhance their reading comprehension, build their sight word vocabularies, facilitate "word sorts" and engage students in other literacy-based activities.

This job will include prepping of math and literacy materials (such as helping to make games and extra materials needed to differentiate instructions for struggling learners). Prior experience working with elementary and/or middle school students is helpful but not necessary.

Work Schedule:
Must be available at least one day/week with preference for applicants who can work two days/week. Most tutoring occurs Monday-Friday from 2:30-5pm; however, the exact schedule depends on the site placement. A limited number of positions are available during school hours. Transportation is provided to some sites. Other sites are walkable or on a bus route.
